Ms. Zeigler was born in Spokane, Washington, and received her B.A. Magna Cum Laude, with a double major in English and Philosophy, from Fort Wright College of the Holy Names. She also obtained a Master of Fine Arts (Creative Writing) degree from the University of Montana writers’ program in Missoula. Her science fiction opera libretto, “The Decision,” received a professional performance by the faculty of the University of Montana School of Music. She continues to write both fiction and legal articles. She is a member of Mystery Writers of America. Ms. Zeigler is married to poet/photographic artist Paul S. Zeigler. In 1984, Ms. Zeigler obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Houston, and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas. She has practiced in the Houston area since then. Thereafter she joined the creditors-rights section of a mid-sized firm which specialized in complex real estate transactions. In 1990, Ms. Zeigler moved to a firm with a large and varied bankruptcy practice, where she exclusively represented Chapter 7 Trustees, primarily in connection with asset transfer and concealment issues. She has significant experience in bankruptcy litigation and appeals at both district and circuit court levels, including a matter of national first impression.
Ms. Zeigler is an active writer on legal matters, and is the articles editor of The Houston Lawyer, the magazine of the Houston Bar Association. She has been guest editor of two special issues on historical topics. Her two-part article on the 2005 bankruptcy amendments in The Houston Lawyer won a “best series” award from the State Bar of Texas. She is an active member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and has published articles on bankruptcy and other legal issues. She has presented bankruptcy topics to the Houston Bar Association, Houston Association of Legal Assistants, Lone Star Legal Aid, and other organizations.
